It’s a good time to be cycling in Vancouver, exploring nearby neighbourhoods during this unique time in our history. Yes, of course, a lot less traffic – but probably the most intriguing change, though one of the least obvious, is who is out there on the streets, sidewalks and parks. It’s us. Just us.
There are no tourists in town, few visitors, only the people who actually live here, staying close to home and using their public realm for leisure and limited trips of purpose. Like shopping at the local farmers market – in this case, the one at the Kitsilano Community Centre next to Connaught Park.
Here’s a video of the scene on 10th Avenue – revealing not just the line-up but also who’s on the street and how they’re moving. Take a good look at the mix. This is who we are.
