Daily Durning: The Royal Hudson crosses Arbutus in 1975

PT doesn’t know where Tom Durning finds this stuff, but we’re glad he does:

That’s the historic steamtrain, the Royal Hudson, crossing Broadway almost a half century ago.   And so, perpendicularly, is that historic trolleybus.  On what is now the not-historic Arbutus Greenway.

  1. My uncle was one of the engineers on that run and told me that the tight curves on the Arbutus Line caused them concern for such a big radius engine.. But they made it to Marpole.

  2. I have copy of this photo (a favourite and legitimately purchased) framed, and hanging on my wall. A time capsule of a different Vancouver.
