It’s not a detour anymore.

Today the City removed the fencing and added new jersey barriers, formally creating the east-side bike lane – previously a curbside traffic lane.  The rebuilt sidewalk which had been used as the temporary northbound bike lane is now solely for those on foot.

And as with all the construction, it was being done without stopping traffic – car, bus, bike or ped.

  1. It’s nice to see this done. I really like how they tied in so many different upgrades into a single construction project. Sewer, water, increased walking capacity, increased driving capacity and turning lanes, safety improvements, traffic signals, maintaining heritage look, suicide prevention (that matches the style), more width on Pacific Blvd, part of Burrard is a complete street, new walking and cycling crossings to cross to Burnaby St., etc.
    What’s not to like?

  2. Wondering about the quality of the road surface.
I can see water pooling in the bike lane in the pics – and the car lanes still seem rough.
