The two-storey building at 1255 West Pender has stuck around a lot longer than anyone would have guessed, given the development in Triangle West (more typically known as Coal Harbour).  It was a well-known bar and pick-up club back in the day when this area was parking lots and spec office buildings.
Now it will be this, according to Kenneth Chan at the Daily HiveJapanese architect to build world’s tallest hybrid timber building in Coal Harbour,

  1. Sourced locally can still be imported from the US or overseas. All you need is a local supplier/contractor for the end-run.
    You can see it all the time when farmers markets vendors or restaurant owners are buying bulk products at Costco and such, repackaging them, washing off labels or claiming menu items are locally sourced when they may have come from the local grocery store who brought them from who knows where.
    Perhaps they should not shop at those places using their own trucks or vans with their businesses advertised on them.

  2. Mass timber structures are very fire resistant. They are not built like stick frame buildings. They also have to meet all the building codes.

  3. Looks lovely. $1600-$2000/foot ??
    Sourced “locally” means what these days ?
    WA is closer than V Island .. so is WA sourced timber (especially in light of the softwood lumber dispute) “local” .. or only sourced in Lower Mainland or V Island ? What about Merritt or Kamloops ?
    Where is “local” defined ? [ ditto with strawberries advertised as “locally grown” ]
