There’s always a place for colour and new combinations of design elements for our multi-dwelling developments in this city.  Last month I had a rainy day to kill in Seattle so I quickly photographed as many examples of materials, colours and building forms for new architecture I could find.  Here is a quick and dirty photo dump of the booming residential infill and commercial projects throughout the Emerald City.
Part 3 continues with our look at the booming Cascade/South Lake Union neighbourhood centered on Westlake Avenue N & Harrison Street.

Yet another Amazon building in the area, this one a shared office space facility named Amazon Brazil.  The contrast of blue tones and bold rust panels play beautifully off each other, not to mention the funky hanging necklace art piece floating above the entry court.

The plaza space is well connected to the laneway beyond and well programmed with all types of seating for resting, eating and drinking at Sam’s Tavern (400 9th Ave N).

Some of the older buildings (relatively) in the district may not be as bold as their Amazon counterparts but still exhibit nice scale and proportion such as the VEER Residential Lofts shown here (401 9th Ave N).

A truly powerful urban statement painting a structure all black, the wood doors contrasting well (2121 Westlake Ave N).

New build into an old facade at the Allen Institute, a bio-science non-profit founded by Paul Allen of Microsoft fame.  We get our fair share of green glass in Vancouver towers but these windows seem to stand apart with clear vertical strips and varying tones     (615 Westlake Ave N).

Had to include a billboard of a future development in the neighbourhood.  I’m a big fan of warm red brick against black (Future: 503 Westlake Ave N).

  1. Makes me want to visit again soon! The urban design parameters that afford lots of human activity, seating and a plethora of visual interest around even small urban plazas like some of these will ensure their success for a long time.
