While often a very appropriate suite of places to look towards, this path misses an appreciation of efforts to provide higher-quality public transportation in other cities. In this webinar, Cole Hendrigan will look at examples of multi-modal urban transportation, the priorities (or lack thereof), the urban response and their human-scaled details. Read more _______________________ July 7, 1-2:30 pm PDT Auckland, New Zealand, has been a global pioneer in creating shared-space streets in its city centre as part of a laneway circuit of shared and pedestrian spaces. The results have been positive: Traffic volumes and speeds are down and pedestrian numbers and retail sales are up. But most importantly, it has created spaces for people to linger and enjoy that were formerly used to simply facilitate the movement of motor vehicles. As with anywhere, there are learnings to be had, and the question has to be raised: Is it time to take the next step and start turning shared streets into people streets for pedestrians and cyclists?
