Vancouver Wants This

As we lurch slowly to realizing that people on foot are people, and the spaces they use can be more than small, ugly, dangerous and minimal —  here’s Pittsburgh. Check out this alley, where a three-block long walk-on mural by Deanna Mance invites people on foot. If you want, you can also stop in for noshery at the delightfully-named neon-signed “Weiner World”.  Note the second mural.

A project of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership in collaboration with the City of Pittsburgh, the mural stretches along Strawberry Way for three blocks—between Smithfield and Grant Streets. Strawberry Way is closed to vehicular traffic between William Penn Way and Grant Street so the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will be placing permanent outdoor furniture in the area for the public to use.

  1. Better than Telus Garden’s concrete alley pavement which was just installed.

But note the Pittsburgh “alley” (Strawberry Way) is a street, not an alley. It has sidewalks.
