Communications and Project Officer, SFU Carbon Talks

•Time: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
•Salary Range: $48,000 to $53,000

Carbon Talks, is an initiative of the Simon Fraser University Centre for Dialogue in association with the Beedie Graduate School of Business, the School for Public Policy and the School for International Studies, focused on increasing Canada’s global competitiveness by moving to a low carbon economy. The Centre seeks a Communications and Project Officer to work as part of the project team based at the SFU Centre for Dialogue.

Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong research and organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a team. We seek candidates with strong computer and social media skills, project management experience, a keen interest in climate change issues and a desire to work in a dynamic learning environment. Facilitation and convening experience is an asset.

Position Description

The Communications and Project Officer plays a key role in the project team. S/he reports to the Executive Director and provides assistance in delivering and evaluating our projects, developing content for the website and blog, organizing, delivering and reporting on invitational dialogues, outreach events and presentations, and marketing Carbon Talks to the broader community.

Specific duties include:
•Delivering and Evaluating our Moving in a Livable Region Transportation Initiative: •Provides support to the ED and Project Manager/Policy Analyst in designing the community dialogues, Community Summit and opinion research
•Assists in participant recruitment and briefing
•Provides support in the preparation of advanced reading materials (discussion guides, facilitator guides)
•Provides leadership in framing the reporting of transportation dialogues
•Writes related content for the website and newsletters

•Developing engaging content for the website and print material: •Interviews and writes innovator profiles for the website
•Researches links and posts themo Prepares and edits blog posts
•Updates web content to ensure it is current
•Adds photographs to the Flickr pool

•Assisting in developing articles for publication in the media: •Researches and develops articles for publication online or in the mainstream press

•Supporting Carbon Talks staff in delivering invitational dialogues: •Prepares background resource packages
•Assists with logistics
•Takes notes and writes reports

•Working with Carbon Talks staff to design, deliver and market public dialogues: •Prepares promotional materials
•Profiles events to key target audiences using a variety of online media tools
•Engages the university and broader community in the sessions
•Provides logistical support in hosting and recording sessions

•Developing partnerships and relationships with organizations, government agencies and businesses that align with Carbon Talks’ work
•Maintaining good working relationships with the project team and assisting with administrative duties as necessary
