"Sustainability 2.0 and the Quest for Resilient Cities" – Mar 5

From the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University:
Sustainability 2.0 and the Quest for Resilient Cities
Roy  Brooke, Director of the City of Victoria’s Sustainability Department
The battle for successful sustainable development, and in particular addressing our society’s multitude of environmental challenges, will be won or lost in urban areas.  … Many cities are now the site of dramatic sustainability innovation and change, in locations as far flung as Curitiba, Stockholm and Victoria.  …
As heartening as these developments are, however, simply maintaining the   status quo   in cities requires a doubling of current sustainability performance.  “Winning the battle” – in other words, improving outcomes at a sale commensurate to the challenges we face, requires new forms of ‘Sustainability 2.0’ that focus not only on doing less bad but actually restoring, regenerating and rebuilding – not just in Canada, but around the world.
