From Ken Ohrn:
Golly, I have to drop off someone here. Where should I park my huge van?
Why, in the bike lane of course.

Wrote them a short, but polite e-mail this morning:
Please do not park your vehicles in the downtown separated bike lanes. My family relies on those lanes to securely get around the city on our bicycles. Your need for a convenient parking spot does not trump my children’s safety. Disappointed,
Chris Bruntlett
Dear Chris Bruntlett,
This vehicle was sold 6 months ago and it seems that the new owner has not removed our decal and webpage address from the window.
We feel bad for any inconvenience you may have experienced, however our company is not responsible for this.
Regards,
Diya Enterprises Ltd.
Huh. If I sold a company vehicle, I’d definitely take the decal off first. Good thing the new owner didn’t hurt anyone with the van – that would have been pretty bad for your business!
You sold a vehicle with your company’s name still attached? Especially one that would more easily help identify the perpetrator in a hit-and-run?
“Fool” or “idiot”, I can’t decide.
The Van was transferred to someone we know and we have asked them to remove our company information.
Additionally, i have been told that there was an event taking place at that location and the drive was told to park there for loading and unloading by the event organizers.
June 9th was the big East Indian Dance Festival – there was a huge stage set up that weekend in front of the Art Gallery.
INcidentally, I noticed that some large ornate gates have been installed on the Howe St. side of the Art Gallery drive – not sure about the Hornby side.
There was an SUV stopped in the Dunsmuir lane at Granville on Monday afternoon for at least 10 minutes while dozens of cyclists had to navigate around him.

Incredibly frustrating. Especially when the VPD have been parked at Main and Hawks several times in the last few weeks, picking off cyclists who come to a rolling stop, or aren’t wearing the required headgear…
