1. They are beautiful, to be sure, but how many are simply museum pieces and how many are actually functional, practical, inviting spaces for information storage and retrieval?
    I should note that the main branch of the public library in British Columbia’s capital city was awkwardly crammed into what was supposed to be temporary quarters in a government office complex and has been there for thirty years!
