Michael Alexander passes along links to the work of New York’s WXY Architecture + Urban Design.
On home ground, they’re doing a ped bridge that connects a subway station at Coney Island with the New York Aquarium:
In Lisbon, the A-Corda bridge gives access to the ‘futbol’ stadium.
The approach winds through a natural landscape interspersed with photovoltaic “trees” whose solar panels produce energy to power the embedded LED lighting pattern, illuminating the bridge for use after dark.
And in China, the Xinjin bridge reflects the location of the bridge at the confluence of five rivers.
That first one is interesting because for Sound Transit’s University of Washington Station, the University is now back-pedalling on having an overpass (passerelle) to the station and instead wants a street level pedestrian crosswalk across busy Montlake Boulevard.
